Something weird is going on and "real-time data" is a topic again somewhere?
Back in the younger days of my career, so in the 2010s, there was a sort of period where variations of "real-time analytics" and dashboards were popular for the industry (okay, mostly vendors) as a whole. Around that time you'd often hear stuff about "Lambda Architecture" and how it was going to be this hot new paradigm for designing systems. Note how most of the citations in the Wikipedia post there date from 2013-2014.
Most of the practitioners at the time looked at the marketing (attempted) hype and wondered just who was demanding that sort of stuff? The common joke being that our executives wanted real-time data for their quarterly meetings, and were going to spend millions of dollars on it. By now, in 2025, the question of "do you need Real Time Data Analytics?" can easily be answered with a "if you have to ask, you don't". It's largely settled debate since we've learned just what a giant pain in the butt it is to run and maintain such systems. The payoffs need to be known in advance.
